DURA-ACE WH-7900-C24-CL Overview
If it wears the name Dura Ace, painstaking effort has gone into its design and manufacturing. Shimano doesn't give the Dura Ace moniker out easily and in order the 7900's has earned them. Shimano took their popular, durable WH-7850 and made significant improvements to the hub. The new hub design allows for easy adjustments that are not affected by the tension of quick releases. It also has a super-thin walled aluminum rim and braking surface is bonded to a carbon fiber "shell" to create a rim lighter than aluminum and stronger than either of the materials by themselves. These rims are the lightest clinchers with an aluminum brake track in the industry, so they accelerate incredibly well. The rims are 22mm wide to increase the tread patch of the tire and allow the sidewalls to take a more vertical profile which makes for better cornering.The differences come at the hub. The Dura Ace 7900 Titanium freehub body has been changed ever so slightly to have quicker engagement. The sealing has been changed slightly also to feature labyrinth seals with a contact seal at the end of the axle on both sides. Labyrinth seals are non-contact seals which results in less friction and therefore better rolling efficiency.The C24 wheel has been perfected with the Dura Ace iteration. They are durable, have better sealing with less friction, stiff, and quite light.
